Show day at altitude?
Show Day at Altitude: Know the Symptoms
Red Rocks sits at about 6,450 feet, higher than Denver’s 5,280. Altitude sickness is more common above 8,000 feet, so it’s worth knowing the signs if you’re visiting from a lower elevation. Symptoms tend to start 6 to 12 hours after you arrive at a higher elevation. Watch for:
- Headache, usually the first sign
- Nausea or loss of appetite
- Fatigue or weakness
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Trouble sleeping
Common advice for visitors is to take it easy on your first day, go up in elevation gradually and go easy on alcohol. Want to start your show day hydrated? Stop in for an IV drip before you head to the venue.
When to get medical care
If symptoms get worse while you rest, or you have confusion, trouble walking or shortness of breath at rest, get medical care right away and move to a lower elevation if you can.
IV therapy is not a substitute for medical care. Symptom information is based on CDC travel health guidance.
